Patrice Lumumba was born in Katako Kombe. He was the leader of the Congolese National Movement which sought to achieve independence from colonial rule for the African country. After the Congo was granted independence, Lumumba became Premier. The country soon became engulfed in civil war and Lumumba was assassinated in 1961. Bibliography: Kanza, Thomas R.
